Our Learning Journey this week....

This week we have been reading the book ‘Flip Flap Safari by Alex Scheffler – which is a book which has flaps and we set the children a challenge to make their own safari animals from a mix of safari animals – e.g. a zebodile (using the top half of a zebra and the bottom half of a crocodile).

This week we have continued with Little Wandle Phase 4 which includes looking at longer words. In Maths, we have been exploring numbers beyond 10 and number bonds to 10 – using ten frames.

We had an amazing day at Bocketts Farm on Tuesday – it was a great opportunity to enrich our curriculum and give the children experiences beyond the classroom to further their knowledge of the world around us. We were so proud of their behaviour during the day and of the way they all looked after one another. A HUGE thank you once again to those parents who volunteered to accompany us on our trip – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did!

Can you write some clues to describe your favourite animal you saw at Bocketts Farm?

Bocketts Farm reminders:

Save the date - ‘Wow Writing’ workshop – We will be running a workshop for you and your child on the following dates and times: Wednesday 8th May at 9:15-10:15 or Thursday 9th May at 14:00-15:00.

Please make sure your child’s water bottle is clearly named and that their book bag with their fun folder is in school every day. We are also finding that several children are starting to bring in toys from home and try to get them out during the school day; we would hate for these precious toys to get lost or broken whilst at school, so we kindly request that home toys are not brought into school please – thank you for your support.

Curriculum

The Reception year is one of the most important in your child’s educational journey. It is paramount to lay the foundations to become a life-long learner. The skills taught in Reception are comparable to the foundations for a house – we need to make them nice and strong!

We have an exciting and engaging curriculum that encourages children to become resourceful, inquisitive, communicative learners who will always ‘give it a go’ and challenge themselves to be successful.

One of our key aims is to make the transition into school life as smooth as possible for all children and we enjoy working closely with parents and feeder Nursery settings to ensure we develop each child’s love of learning.

Specific Areas

Literacy

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

We plan experiences and activities that allow children to explore and extend their understanding in a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment. We use daily observations to inform further opportunities and enhance learning zones to encourage high levels of engagement and progress in learning skills.

In Reception we focus on developing the 'whole child' and ensure that all areas of learning are explored and developed with a skills based approach.

These areas are all important and the guide below shows some of the aspects we look for in Reception.
