Our Learning Journey this week...

This week we have been sharing the book “Super Safari” by Tony Mitton – this is a book which introduces simple facts about safari animals in the form of rhyming text. The children have enjoyed writing their own fun facts about safari animals. In Maths, we have been focusing on number patterns and building numbers to 20.

Home Learning

Can you choose your favourite safari animal and write a fun fact about it.

For example:

A cheetah can run really fast.

An elephant has a long trunk.

Parent Partnership

Please could you check at home if you have any outstanding reading books and/or Lending Library books and return them to school -  as our boxes are looking a little depleted – Thank you!

As it beginning to get warmer, please can you make sure you send in a named water bottle to school every day.   On sunny days, your child can wear a sunhat to school – again please make sure it is named – and if needed, please apply sun cream at home.

Curriculum

The Reception year is one of the most important in your child’s educational journey. It is paramount to lay the foundations to become a life-long learner. The skills taught in Reception are comparable to the foundations for a house – we need to make them nice and strong!

We have an exciting and engaging curriculum that encourages children to become resourceful, inquisitive, communicative learners who will always ‘give it a go’ and challenge themselves to be successful.

One of our key aims is to make the transition into school life as smooth as possible for all children and we enjoy working closely with parents and feeder Nursery settings to ensure we develop each child’s love of learning.

Expressive Arts and Design

We plan experiences and activities that allow children to explore and extend their understanding in a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment. We use daily observations to inform further opportunities and enhance learning zones to encourage high levels of engagement and progress in learning skills.

In Reception we focus on developing the 'whole child' and ensure that all areas of learning are explored and developed with a skills based approach.

These areas are all important and the guide below shows some of the aspects we look for in Reception.
