Our Journey So Far

September - Today it was our very first school council meeting! The children were very excited to be given their council hat to wear around school. They introduced themselves to the whole school in an assembly and showed great confidence.

I am so impressed that they stood up in front of everyone and shared something about them and why they will be good in the role!

I will help others and make sure we do things for the school and for others - looking after everyone is important.

October - The school council members have met to discuss the Harvest festival. We spoke about why we should collect food and that we should donate it to the Woking Food Bank. The council members made posters for us to put up around school and to share on our school Newsletter. The children have been eager to share this with their classes and were ambitious to put the posters everywhere!

This is incredible, a huge thank you to the children and families of WBIS for your kind donations. You got loads of things on the list that we are running short of, it is just amazing.

I have enjoyed this week, I like helping others, some people don't have as much as we do, we are doing a really kind thing.

November - The school council members have been hard at work trying to think of ways to improve road safety around our school and area. A road safety poster competition was launched by the school council member in assembly and all year groups were encouraged to get their entries in. The best part about the poster competition was that the winning poster would be printed onto a large banner and placed outside our school to raise awareness. We were overwhelmed with all the amazing entries, so many informative and creative posters!

Well done to Mia in Centipedes for winning the poster competition.

The children have so many wonderful, eye-catching ideas on their posters.

Wow, these posters are easy to read and so colourful!

December - The school council met to discuss 'kindness' towards others in the build up towards Christmas. As a school we decided to combat loneliness and write Christmas Cards that could be delivered to the local elderly residents home.

It put a huge smile on my face to have a beautiful card delivered, how thoughtful of such little ones.

'Being lonely is when there is no one to keep you company.' - Y1

'We are sending a card to stop people being lonely!' - Y1

'We are spreading kindness.' - Y1

'You feel like someone cares about you no matter what when you receive a card.' - Y2

January - School Council spent time doing some market research during play and lunch times to find out the common trend that fellow children feel the school is in need of.

Following their investigations, they met with Mrs Dixon to present their ideas about what they feel the classrooms, playground and communal areas are in need of.

Some of their wonderful ideas include;

  • Larger library areas
  • Role play areas on the playground
  • Carpet desks in all classrooms

The children have taken this job very seriously and I am so proud of all the fantastic ideas they have brought forwards.

'I think we need more sharpeners at all groups.'- Y2

‘We need more quiet spaces in the school to read.'- Y1
