Our Learning Journey this week... |
Summer term topic: School Days
We've had a fantastic start to the term with the signs of Spring bringing light and positivity to everyone.
In English, we have been writing letters to all the animals in 'The Great Paint' by Alex Willmore, thinking about how 'Frog' might fix his mistakes and return the habitats back to normal.
In Maths, we have been practicing counting in 2's, 10's and 5's, to make equal groups and arrays. The children have enjoyed recognising what is an equal or odd number and showing their knowledge by writing a repeated addition number sentence.
As part of our new topic 'School Days', we've been exploring the history of our school and how West Byfleet Infant School, it's teaching approaches and the grounds have changed over time. In Geography, we have conducted field work, observing and recording the human and physical features of our school, finishing with a labelled map of our school grounds.

Home Learning |
Home learning book routine Home learning is set on a Wednesday of every week. These are to be returned by the following Tuesday. Note: children need to hand the books to an adult on return, as we will not be checking book bags.
This week We would like the children to write a letter to a person, friend or relative that they have not seen in a while, focusing on the key features of a letter that they have learned this week.
Spellings; Each week, we will set 8 spellings (4 that include the graphemes we have learned and 4 tricky words). All the words follow the Little Wandle phonics programme and have been taught in school. We recommend practicing these a couple of times over the week in advance of a low stakes spelling test we will do each Friday. You can use 'read, cover, write' method to build your child's confidence.
Last weeks spellings: tray, game, treat, secret, they, sure, pure, said (test on 26/4/24) New spellings: cried, like, over, note, were, one, says, here (test on 3/5/24)

We can usually solve simple problems or queries for you quite quickly. Nothing surprises or shocks us anymore - we've seen and heard most things before!!! Please see below the communication trail:
Please make sure that you use the communication trail to ensure that the right people can help you.
Curriculum
In Year One we aim to make the transition from Early Years to Key Stage One as seamless as possible. Our target is to provide a broad curriculum where all children are able to succeed and make progress. We are a team of very dedicated, energetic and enthusiastic staff, who enjoy working together to provide the best possible learning experiences for the children in our care.
Our number one aim is to ensure every child enjoys school and develops a passion for learning throughout their time with us. We dedicate time throughout the year to build strong and positive relationships with all the children in our year group, so that we know them as individuals. We find out what makes them smile, and should they need some extra support and care we are always happy to give it.
By the end of Year One, our aim is for every child to have made fantastic progress, to have grown in confidence, to have developed the skills to solve problems independently and to want to challenge themselves as learners. We are passionate about providing an excellent level of education and developing every aspect of each child; not only their academic achievements but also their social and emotional well being.
Learning Environment
We promote an enquiry based curriculum and aim to provide lessons that are engaging, meaningful and fun. In order to achieve this, we carefully plan a progressive curriculum, guided by the children's interests and questions, to ensure all individuals can succeed. We endeavour to provide many hands on experiences and to make the curriculum relevant and real to the children.
We make our classrooms friendly and accessible to promote independent learning and also bright and stimulating; a welcoming environment for all. Our displays are both interactive and purposeful and give the children the opportunity to showcase their excellence.
