Our Learning Journey this week...

We all hope you enjoyed the Family Summer Fayre at the weekend – it was so nice to see so many families from the school community enjoying wonderful weather! Thank you so much for supporting the event to raise much needed funds for our school. 😊

This week we have continued our new topic ‘On the beach’; we have been looking at rhyming using the story of ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson and the children have generated their own lists of rhyming words.

In Maths, we have been exploring ‘sharing’ by exploring sharing different amounts fairly and not fairly using teddies, coins and 2 plates. The children were great at solving the problem of how to share odd amounts as well.

We are so proud of all the children and how hard they have been trying with their writing - they have all been ‘Go for it Gorillas’!  What a busy week - thank you so much for your continuing support.

Home Learning

Thank you for all your support with the home learning in recent weeks – we can really see that the children have been practising their handwriting and writing skills at home!

Home Challenge –

We are launching a new home learning grid for the half term for you to explore with your child over the next few weeks at a time that suits you as a family, with some fun activities linked to our EYFS curriculum and project this half term.  Don’t’ forget to upload some of them on to Tapestry so we can celebrate their achievements with them in school!

Parent Partnership

Reading books are still being changed regularly, with daily reading opportunities happening every day - therefore please make sure your child has their fun folder (with their yellow reading diary and school reading book) in school every day - and that they are regularly practising their reading at home as well.

Thank you so much for your support.

Curriculum

The Reception year is one of the most important in your child’s educational journey. It is paramount to lay the foundations to become a life-long learner. The skills taught in Reception are comparable to the foundations for a house – we need to make them nice and strong!

We have an exciting and engaging curriculum that encourages children to become resourceful, inquisitive, communicative learners who will always ‘give it a go’ and challenge themselves to be successful.

One of our key aims is to make the transition into school life as smooth as possible for all children and we enjoy working closely with parents and feeder Nursery settings to ensure we develop each child’s love of learning.

Expressive Arts and Design

We plan experiences and activities that allow children to explore and extend their understanding in a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment. We use daily observations to inform further opportunities and enhance learning zones to encourage high levels of engagement and progress in learning skills.

In Reception we focus on developing the 'whole child' and ensure that all areas of learning are explored and developed with a skills based approach.

These areas are all important and the guide below shows some of the aspects we look for in Reception.
