At West Byfleet Infant School we use Kapow Primary, which supports the teaching of Music.

In Key Stage 1 there are opportunities for children of all abilities to engage, develop, innovate and express their knowledge and skills as set out in the National Curriculum. The progression planned into Kapow Primary means that the children are increasingly challenged throughout their time in school.

In Reception Music is an integral part of the learning focuses covered during the year. As Reception is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage, we relate the musical aspects of the children’s learning to the objectives set out in the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) which underpin the curriculum planning for children aged three to five.

Music plays an important role in supporting children’s personal and social development. Counting songs help to develop mathematical skills, while music from different cultures broadens children’s knowledge and understanding of the world, as well as their learning within Expressive Arts and Design. These skills are taught through carefully planned lessons that link to current learning focuses and are further supported through the use of Kapow Primary.
