Wonderful First Week in Reception!

This week in Reception, the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the story Mr Gumpy’s Boat by John Burningham. They listened carefully to the story and talked about the different animals that joined Mr Gumpy on his adventure. The children loved retelling the story in their own way, using role play, story maps and discussion to recall the events and characters. It was wonderful to see their imagination and storytelling skills developing throughout the week.

In phonics, we have been learning the sounds g, o, c and k. The children enjoyed practising saying the sounds, recognising them in words and beginning to use them in their reading and writing activities. We are very impressed with how confidently they are joining in and applying their phonics knowledge.

In mathematics, we have focused on number formation. The children practised writing their numbers carefully, working hard to form them correctly and developing their pencil control. They showed great perseverance and pride in their work.

Parents Partnership

Thank you for your support in helping your child settle into school. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled with your child's name. We would also appreciate children bringing their Fun Folder (reading wallet) to school each day in their book bag, along with a named water bottle. These small steps help us to keep everything organised and support your child's learning and independence.

We would be very grateful if you could check your child’s school bag regularly, as some classroom resources occasionally find their way home. This is very common at this time of year, as children often enjoy taking special items with them! However, replacing resources can be costly and makes it difficult to ensure we have enough equipment available for all children. If you do spot any school items at home, please pop them back into your child’s bag and let us know.

Please ensure that all clothing and belongings are clearly labelled. We would also appreciate your support in reminding children to put jumpers and cardigans back on their peg when they take them off.
