West Byfleet Infant School recognises the importance of regular school attendance and work closely with families to ensure our children attend school for all the days available.

Absence

Please report your child's absence by telephoning the office - 01932 343260 (Option 1) by 9:00am each morning.

It is important to keep the school up to date if your child is absent as the school has a safeguarding responsibility and is required to account for every child, every day.

Special Request for Leave of Absence

In our policy, West Byfleet Infant School will not authorise any leave of absence for holidays or similar activities during term time. Obviously, we recognise that there are sometimes exceptional circumstances that require parents/carers to take their child/ren out of school for short periods, each request will be treated sympathetically based on the information provided.

Regular and punctual attendance is important because it: 

1. Supports learning
2. Helps children keep up with their work
3. Helps children achieve better results
4. Helps children develop friendships and social skills

In August 2024, new guidance became statutory across the country to help schools remove barriers to attendance. 

An application form for Special Leave of Absence in exceptional circumstances needs to be completed to obtain authorisation from the Headteacher.
