Bereavement and Loss

Bereavement and Loss
We understand that experiences of bereavement and loss can be very upsetting for children and families, and that young children may not always have the words to explain how they are feeling. Children can be affected by loss in different ways, such as the death of a family member or pet, separation, or changes at home. At our school, we aim to provide a calm, caring and supportive environment where children feel safe and comforted. Our staff are sensitive to each child’s needs and offer reassurance, simple explanations and opportunities to express feelings through talk, play and familiar routines. We work closely with families to support children with understanding, kindness and care during these times.

Letting Us Know
If your family has experienced a bereavement or significant loss, we encourage you to let the school know as soon as you feel able. Sharing this information helps us to understand your child’s needs and ensures we can offer the right support, care and flexibility in school. All information is treated sensitively and shared only with relevant staff to best support your child.
