We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 1, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum.
In Maths, the children have been exploring bar models. We have used bar models to support addition and subtraction, encouraging the children to explain their thinking and show their working in different ways. The children are becoming increasingly confident at identifying the whole and the parts in a problem, and we are really proud of the effort they are putting into developing their reasoning skills.
In English, we have continued working with our class text Stuck. This week, the children used their creativity and imagination to write their own alternative ending to the story. We discussed different ideas as a class before planning and writing our own versions. It has been wonderful to see such a range of imaginative responses, with the children carefully thinking about what might happen next and using their phonic knowledge to support their writing.
In Art, we explored the work of the artist James Rizzi. The children enjoyed learning about his bold, colourful style and the way he uses patterns and simple shapes to create lively cityscapes. Inspired by his work, the children created their own pieces of art, using bright colours, drawing expressive faces on buildings, and adding lots of detail. It was lovely to see their enthusiasm and individuality shine through in their creations.
Homework Reminder
A polite reminder to parents and carers that it is the children’s responsibility to place their homework books into the classroom each morning. The children are reminded regularly to do this; however, book bags will not be checked, and homework books will not be retrieved by staff.
Thank you for your support in encouraging the children to develop independence and responsibility.
