Curriculum

In Year One, we aim to make the transition from the Early Years to Key Stage One as smooth and positive as possible. We understand that every child is unique, and we carefully respond to their individual needs to ensure they feel supported, valued, and ready to thrive.

Our curriculum is broad, engaging, and designed to build on the strong foundations laid in Reception. We continue the Early Years approach by incorporating small group work led by an adult, alongside independent, purposeful discovery tasks that promote curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. This allows children to develop key skills at their own pace while fostering independence and a love of learning.

We are a team of dedicated, enthusiastic, and energetic staff who work closely together to create the best possible learning experiences for the children in our care. Throughout the year, we invest time in building strong, positive relationships with every child. We take the time to get to know what makes each one smile, and we’re always ready to offer extra support and care whenever it’s needed.

The aim is for every child to have made excellent progress, grown in confidence, and developed the skills to solve problems independently. We want them to be eager learners who embrace challenges and take pride in their achievements.

Learning Environment

At the heart of our Year One provision is a learning environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and designed with the whole child in mind. We believe that the classroom should be a place where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore, question, and grow.

Our classrooms are carefully organised to promote independence and support a smooth transition from the Early Years. Resources are easily accessible so that children can take ownership of their learning, make choices, and develop confidence in managing their own tasks. We create bright and stimulating spaces that are rich in language, creativity, and opportunities for discovery.

We place a strong emphasis on making our environment both purposeful and engaging. Interactive displays encourage hands-on involvement, reinforce key learning, and give children the opportunity to revisit and reflect on their work. Our celebration displays allow pupils to showcase their efforts and achievements with pride, helping to build self-esteem and a strong sense of belonging.
